Things to Know Before You Board:
Your pet needs to be up-to-date on the vaccinations below. A copy of their vaccination record is required for our files, we have the ability to make copies here in the office. We cannot, and will not, board your pet until we have a copy of its' vaccine record. This is for the safety of not only your pet but our other guests as well.
The required vaccinations are:
Distemper/Parvo Booster (sometimes listed as the following: DHLP, DHLPP, Dac2P, etc)
Rabies
Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Bordetella must be administered at least SEVEN DAYS before boarding and every 6 months,
NO EXCEPTIONS.
The suggested vaccines and/or test are:
Lyme's Disease since the play yards are in a semi wooded area
Lymes and Ehrlichia test (administered together at most vets)
Fecal Float is necessary to test for intestinal worms, Giardia, and several other diseases and/or parasites
Heartworm test and monthly prevention pill necessary to test for heartworms and to protect the health and life of your pet, the monthly pill also prevents common intestinal worms.
Dogs that show any signs of an upper respiratory infection will not be boarded, allowed in daycare, or bathed. There is a Canine Influenza that has shown up in Maryland and there is, to date, no preventative vaccine. Symptoms can be very similar to Kennel Cough and include: nasal drip/discharge, any type of cough, listlessness, and/or fever. Any dog that develops any symptoms will have to be picked up immediately by an emergency contact or their owners. Any dog that cannot be picked up immediately will be delivered to the owner's vet for treatment and boarding at the owner's expense.

What we do to insure that your dog has a healthy and safe living space here:
We clean and disinfect our kennels and office everyday using bleach water and/or white vinegar to generally clean; and a commercial virucide developed for animal quarters to disinfect.
We wash (use sanitizer on) our hands after touching animal wastes/discharges, when we move from one play group to another, and when we come back from lunch or another outing outside of the kennel.
Every bed that becomes soiled is washed immediately
Each bowl and water bucket is washed daily
Only play groups are allowed to drink out of the same water bucket, we always change the bucket when we bring a new play group into an area previously vacated by another group.
Each new guest that comes in our door is visually inspected for signs of trauma and/or sickness. Any pet with any discharge or symptoms of illness is never allowed into the kennel, even for a short tour. Those pets with allergies must have a note from their vet explaining that they have been checked over for kennel cough, etc and diagnosed with allergies not a sickness.
Any female who is in heat will NOT be boarded at anytime, no exceptions. Unaltered males may be boarded after an assessment is done on their behavior and it is determined that they are not overly aggressive towards people and/or other dogs.
We have an air exchange system that can change the air in the entire kennel in just seconds.
We provide your pet with lots of fresh air and exercise, during which they are interacted with; all of which reduce stress and stress related problems for your pet while boarding.
Our fences are 6'-7' tall and buried 1' in the ground and concreted to ensure your pet is safe outside in our play yards, baring any Houdini guests that may board with us. For those dogs that are fence climbers, even ones as tall as ours, we have a 10'x10'x6' enclosure that includes "bite proof" fencing and a top that is welded on to ensure your pet will not escape our enclosure and/or hurt themselves in the process of trying to escape. (It is the customers' responsibility to report any fence climbing or digging activities that your dog may engage in at home or other facilities.)
Boarding fees are charged every two "shifts" that your dog stays with us, starting with the first day of arrival regardless of when they are dropped off.
If you drop off in the morning that night is your first charge, but if you drop off in the evening the next morning is your first charge.
A "shift" coincides with our business hours; an AM shift is our morning hours and a PM shift is our evening hours. Any part of a shift counts, there is no discount for picking up at the beginning of a shift versus at the end. Each single shift is equal to a half day charge per dog. (Half day charge includes the multiple dog or 8x8 kennel discounts)
Sundays are always a two shift charge since we only have hours in the PM
Example: You want to drop your dog off on Thursday in the PM and pick him up on Sunday.
Thurs PM to Fri AM = 1 day charge
Fri PM to Sat AM = 1 day charge
Sat PM to Sun AM = 1 day charge
Sun PM shift = 1/2 day charge
YOUR TOTAL = 3 1/2 days
The boarding fee includes:
All the creature comforts of home; a bed, water and food bowls, linens, treats, and toys.
Any medications needed during their stay.
Supervised outside/inside playtime between the hours of:
7:30am to Noon,
2:00pm to 6:00pm,
and 9:00 to 10:00pm for "last call"!
Please feel free to bring items that would make your pet more comfortable during their stay, including beds, bones, and toys. We do have water and food bowls, beds and blankets, and toys and treats here. Please do not bring anything that is breakable or that could be chewed into little piece and ingested by your dog, we do not allow our guests to chew on raw hide treats or bones even from home. AK is not responsible for damaged, soiled, or lost items; although we try our hardest to keep track of our guests belongings at all times and keep them as clean as possible. (AK does not charge extra for bedding, feedings, playtime, regular treats, or the administration of medications.)
Please bring your dogs medicines and supplements with clear instructions on how and when to administer it to them. We are trained on how to administer medicine orally and intravenously. We do not charge extra for this service.
AK does not provide food for our guests, so please bring enough of your pet's food in a closable container or a baggie to last the duration of their stay. (We do this because changing a dog's diet suddenly is not healthy for them.)
Group play is reserved for non-aggressive, non-grumpy guests. An
assessment of temperament is done on the first day of boarding.
AK reserves the right to determine
which room size would be correct for your dog's needs.
WE DO NOT "BANK" OUR GUESTS. (Just think of the itty-bitty, metal cages stacked on top of one another at your vet's office). Every guest has a floor to ceiling kennel that includes tile flooring, painted and sealed cinderblock walls for the first 4 feet, and industrial gage chainlink for the last 5 feet.
~DAYCARE~
Daycare can be spent in individual or
group play. Each group or individual is monitored and interacted with during
their play date with us depending on what they like to do. Old and young can
benefit from the all-day attention they will get with us, whether they like belly rubs or
chasing the ball for hours! We make sure that each individual guest
is tired out and happy by the time mom or dad comes to pick them up! Pricing
